The Farm to Ballet Project is a dance project intended to celebrate Vermont’s farming culture while expanding classical ballet’s audience.

We show up at a farm to perform. We dance an original ballet on the grass for an hour and 15 minutes while audience members picnic and take in the sights. We share 50% of the ticket sales with the farm where we performed. More people experience ballet in a casual environment, more people revel in the beauty and importance  of Vermont farms.

Artistic Director Chatch Pregger developed a full length production that reinterprets classical ballet choreography to tell the story of a Vermont farm from Spring to Fall. The production starts with the geese returning for the Spring and then the farmer planning out the farm. The subsequent pieces move through the stages of planting, irrigating, tending and then harvesting the farm’s produce. The farmer takes a detour from the crops to work with the animals and celebrate their contributions to our local foods. The production wraps up with a celebratory farmshare pick-up scene before the geese fly back south for the Winter.

The production is performed outside against the beauty of Vermont farms and their surrounding landscape.  The performances are fundraisers to support and honor the work of our local farmers and food movement.
